The Friends of Wheeler Refuge presents the 13th annual Festival of the Cranes at the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, January 10th through the 12th. The public is invited to this three-day event that features a concert, special presentations, children's activities, and of course thousands of Sandhill cranes and maybe a few Whooping cranes around the Visitor Center. Registration is now open for the 2025 A.I. Symposium at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. This three-day event presented by the Space Camp Institute takes place January 28 through 30 and looks at artificial intelligence and the topic Autonomous versus HITL (Human in the Loop) and its use across several industries. Participants will hike 26.3 miles in one life-changing day on the Pinhoti Trail after completing a 12-week training program. The public is invited to attend information sessions during the month of January across the state of Alabama.
